Excursion Development of rural areas

2025/06/06

This year's excursion “Development of rural areas” took the excursion group to Vogtland in Saxony from June 4 to June 6. The Master's students of civil and environmental engineering, who were accommodated in Plauen, had the opportunity to explore the LEADER region “legendary Vogtland” together with fellow students from TU Dresden and a group of surveying trainees.

There were numerous rural development projects to visit – always expertly presented by the project managers and implementers on site, who answered the questions and discussion points of the excursion group. On the first day, the group led by regional manager Franziska Thoss and excursion leader Martin Schumann, after a friendly welcome by mayor and LAG chairman Marco Siegemund and a thematic introduction in the town hall of Falkenstein, visited various funded village development projects, including a bakery café supported with LEADER funds, the Grünbach children's playhouse and the Ellefeld community center, which is currently under construction. The second day of the excursion began with a morning at the former Adlerhof manor, which is now home to the Vogtland Nature and Environment Center. In addition to a presentation of the work of the environmental center, the group was given an insight into the Vogtland Geo-Environmental Park and the promotion of agri-environmental and climate measures as well as nature conservation-friendly pond management, and a large pot of Vogtland potato soup was also served. The afternoon was dedicated to land consolidation under the expert guidance of Mr. Pscherer (Vogtland District Office), but there was also time for a visit to the farm store of one of the farms visited. The departure day promised a lot of variety: after a visit to a farm with a stable building converted into a sausage kitchen, there was a visit to a recycling company including a LEADER-funded plant for recycling road sweepings containing grit, before a visit to a moorland revitalization project put the footwear to the test again before departure. We would like to thank everyone involved and look forward to next year!
